Yamaha FJR recall.

I was just notified of a recall on the Yamaha FJR1300. The notice came from Michelle O'Leary from the Oregon State Department of Transportation. Here's the notice. If you know someone with one of these bikes please pass this on to them. Of course, my own Elvira is affected. How smoothly the process goes is yet to be determined.

If any of you own a 06-09 Yamaha FJR 1300 it looks like there's a recall on the ignition switch. See below

  4. Conchscooter,
A bundle of sympathy, as usual! I hear the Key West Triumphs have good ignition switches. However, they're known to suffer this mysterious malady known as "a loose nut on the handlebars"!

    Bobskoot,
Thank goodness I haven't been able to sell Sophie as yet, I agree. A gal from Yamaha gave me the party line yesterday. She said I shouldn't ride the bike until it's fixed. Maybe I'll just take my chances.

    Road Captain Jay,
Thank you for the support. Despite riding different brands, we're all in this together!

    Take care,

    Dan

  5. Ditto the Bummer. 3 or 4 years ago I had a recall on my Yamaha V-Star. They had to replace the nut or bolt (or both, I forget) on the seat. Luckily, that was easy. I called ahead and was in and out in no time. I hope it goes as well for you :)

  6. It's interesting to me that mostly the issues with the FJR are for parts that should have had the design bugs worked out of them a long time ago.

I mean- the ignition switch? Shouldn't that come out of a parts bin?

Ditto the previous recall item, the Throttle Position Sensor, although Yamaha did have to replace them pretty much across the entire line.

But the early FJRs had issues with exhaust valves/guides- to me it sounds like a manufacturing process issue, but they've never said- a design for which (part or process) should be well engineered by now. (No other current Yamaha has exhaust valve issues.)

Maybe they were afraid if the bike was too good, we'd never go back to the dealership... ;-)

  7. Biker Betty,
Thanks for the sympathy! I hope that once the process is in place that things go as smoothly.

    Dean,
I agree. One would think that for as many years as the FJR has been in production, the switch would be solid. I'm sure there's probably new bids and supply competition going on all the time in today's economy, though.

I wonder how many parts were actually supplied by different vendors each year?

Were any of your bikes affected by earlier recalls?

    Take care,

    Dan
