Quick update

Life's hectic. What else is new? I haven't been able to steal away much time for tending to the blog. I'm sorry I haven't even posted replies to the last post's comments! I appreciate your expressions and feel ashamed to neglect you all.

This is just a quick update to let you know that I'm still alive. If anyone actually wondered, that is.

I spent the weekend conducting a 'train the trainer" exercise. So I got to enjoy the sunshine around motorcycles and motorcycle people but got in very little riding time of my own. The sacrifices we make!

Remember Kevin?

He came back on Saturday to take the skills test again. This time he passed. So begins his new journey in earnest.

I sold Sophie Saturday night. A guy came down from Seattle to buy her. More on that later. It was harder than I thought it would be to see her go.

Today I'm headed out of here in about an hour. Elvira and I are hitting the road to the Seattle area. I've been called to the Mothership in Kirkland for a day of meetings tomorrow. Read it and weep, but I'm being paid to ride about 275 miles in the sunshine today. Riding for work is even better than riding to work! It will be a late arrival home tomorrow night but another 550 miles or more will be on the odometer when I do get there.

Things look to be calming down by Wednesday. There's some catching up to do then.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine, if you have it. Talk with you later.

Miles and smiles,

Dan

  1. I got paid by my job to ride once.

I had to attend a training in Portland, Oregon, and the trip was overnight.

They paid me 44 cents a mile (the going rate at the time).

    And I rode my motorcycle.

I think I got paid like $80 and it only cost me like $12 both ways.

And two girls in a car took my picture with a bright pink camera.

    I love my motorcycle.

  2. Well, it's my turn to let you know, I've been around, just lurking. I just read your previous post about the "Hells Nerds" scooter gang. I'm a bit quick with the mouth myself, and I saw myself in that young man you were talking about. I'm just glad... the older I got, the slower my mouth got too. It's a good thing!

    Great stories, Dan!

  3. Was beginning to think you didn't like us anymore. Actually just kidding. Life does get real busy sometimes.

    I'm a CPA, it's April 6, need I say more?

If you are bored and need something to do, I can put you to work for a few days.
    Interested?

  5. Pathetic excuses. Type or be flogged is my philosophy.

Sort of like animals in the family, eh? Speaking of how is your elderly four-legged family member?

There have been no nibbles on my Old Goldwing. I really need to end the relationship. Saw my specialist for my Lupus yesterday; my joints are slowly hardening, so it is just as well the bike goes and my motorcycle riding life ends. And I still continue with my cancer treatments. I even formalized my funeral plans yesterday, now that "is" really sick!

Point is that Sophie was you, however ABS on a motorcycle is for all who ride or wish to do so. Elvira Madigan solves the problem.

Oh, and we have five more inches of snow on the ground here this April 7!

  7. Dear IronDad:

I lost a week to a travel conference that I have to work every year. The magic word to a writer is "work." I still have a job and that's where I disappeared to. It's nice to you you were bust too, and missed me about as much.

And for what it's worth, it snowed here again lat night. Lightly. But it is still a pain in the ass.

    Fondest regards,
    Jack

I feel for your lost but now you have space for something new dare I say it maybe a scooter : )

Just think of the smiles it would bring to the faces of scooter riding students to see a coach pulling in on a 250 scooter

  9. Balisada,
Isn't it funny how it always feels like we're getting away with something when we do that?

    Lady R,
Thanks for saying "Hi". I do the same thing at your site. I'm reading but don't always have a relevant comment. One would hope we get wiser as we get older, but I'm proof it doesn't always happen!

    Take care,

    Dan

  10. cpa3485,
We got our own taxes ready early. Our cpa seems to be working 12 hour days for two and a half months. I appreciate the job offer. It might be fun for me but a nightmare for you!

    Charlie6,
Well, we can't all live in Denver. We find our good stuff where we can.

    Conchscooter,
    Police brutality!

    Take care,

    Dan

  11. Bryce,
Our cat turned 20 this week. Still as spry and annoying as ever!

With Sophie out of the picture, maybe I can be more faithful to wicked Elvira.

    Jack,
Travel seems fun. After a while, though, it loses it's luster. I can see that in your words, as well. By the way, snow is only a pain in the ass if you fall down!

    Dave,
I've been thinking about it. The more I'm around them the more I feel attracted to them.

    Take care,

    Dan
